Sports are normally played subject to demand, interest and practicalities of selection.
In making a selection for summer and winter sport a student normally makes a commitment to this sport for the entire season. In exceptional circumstances a student may change sports during a season.
The Head of School will advise on procedures. Some sports are played as part of the PE programme.
Enhancing Leadership Qualities - Promoting Team Spirit
The Co-curricular activities at St. John Matriculation School are aimed to enhance and cultivate the over all development of our Students. These activities form an integral part of the curriculum to help develop and bring forth the talent and creativity of our Students Leadership Qualities.
Performance in activities is given equal importance as in academics and sports Leadership Qualities. Such activities improve creativity, enhance confidence levels, inculcate discipline, enhance leadership qualities and abilities and stimulate the student to become a team player Leadership Qualities.
Day and Residential Students from Year 3 to Year 12 participate in after-school sports and clubs four nights a week from 2.20 pm to 4.00 pm. The clubs and activities are organized and facilitated by our teaching staff that elect or propose an activity in accordance with their personal strength and experience. These co-curricular activities provide both staff and students with the opportunity to mix with people from other parts of the school in an informal and creative environment.
They further provide students with the opportunity to broaden their skills and experience by participating in activities and events that challenge them in novel ways, thus enhancing their educational experience outside the normal rigors of the classroom.
There are a variety of activities that take place in the school academic year which include:
- Inter House Activities
- Inter School Activities.
- Activity Clubs
Inter House Activities:
There are a number of activities scheduled for the student’s house wise throughout the year Inter House Activitiesc. These activities aim at enhancing confidence level and team play Inter House Activities. Care is taken that new faces appear each time in order to maximize the exposure rather than keeping it limited to the best Inter House Activities.
Students from Year 3 to Year 12, compete against other on behalf of their school houses in events as diverse as dance, sport, marching and public speaking Inter School Activities. This competition encourages a healthy, friendly rivalry between our students and fosters a sense of pride in our individual students Inter School Activities as they increasingly identify with and support the other members of their House.
