In after-school activities Residential Schools for deaf children students are on equal footing with their peers, and communication is not a barrier to social life because students do not have to depend on an interpreter.

Enabling them to express themselves freely to their peers. The residential school provides a great opportunity for socialization and is a great environment for developing self-worth.

Residential Schools for deaf children> an early intervention program works with infants and young children and their families in language development and communications skills. Most students at the Columbia Campus commute daily but some participate in a weeknight residential program.

For elementary and middle Residential Schools for deaf children school students who are medically frail or have additional disabilities, support services are available. These include behavior modification counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and psychiatric services.

Mainstreaming Definition means it is an ideal situation and Idea’s preference for the placement of exceptional students. Placement of exceptional students is to be in the least restrictive environment as possible, which means, regular classroom setting.

Although Mainstreaming Definition and inclusion aren't mentioned in the law, it is the preferred practice. Students are more likely to attend the school they would normally attend.  The educational setting is more authentic.

Mainstreaming Deaf Students has worked well with those segments of the special student population whose disabilities are compatible with a classroom setting and is felt in general to better prepare special students socially for life after school.

It has also helped other Mainstreaming Deaf Students school children gain a greater understanding of those with disabilities. It has been controversial, however, with students who have emotional or behavioral difficulties that may be disruptive to the entire class. In addition, some worry that children with special needs cannot be given adequate attention in an integrated class.

Mainstreaming Deaf Students are awarded to each graduating senior, and many graduates pursue higher education degrees. Vocational or technical training, and vocational rehabilitation services are available to help other graduates secure employment.
